Mama Counter

Frequently asked questions

Privacy

Are my conversations recorded?

No. Speech recognition runs entirely on your iPhone. No audio is recorded, stored or transmitted, and no transcript ever leaves your device. Details in the privacy policy.

So what is sent to the worldwide counter?

Only a single anonymous number per session: the sum of the Mama and Papa calls counted. No names, no identifiers, no text, no audio, no timestamp tied to a person.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no registration and no sign-in. Open the app and go.

Devices & languages

Which devices are supported?

Mama Counter requires iOS 26 or later and an iPhone 12 or newer. On-device recognition needs a modern Neural Engine.

Which languages does the app understand?

The interface is available in German and English. Speech recognition supports many more languages, each with its own curated word list for “Mama” and “Papa”.

Why is there no live text on the very first launch?

The first time, iOS downloads the language model for the chosen language, which briefly needs an internet connection. After that, recognition works offline too.

Counting & recognition

Does the app also count “Mommy” or “Papi”?

Yes. Alongside “Mama” and “Papa”, common nicknames and short forms such as “Mommy”, “Mum”, “Mami”, “Dad” or “Papi” are counted as a Mama or Papa call.

Some words aren't recognized – why?

Very short words, unclear pronunciation or lots of background noise make recognition harder. In Audio Bingo, words of at least five letters, spelled as spoken, work best. Small differences (singular/plural, minor spelling) are smoothed over automatically.

Ads & purchase

Is the app free?

Yes, Mama Counter is free and supported by discreet advertising.

Can I remove the ads?

Yes. A one-time in-app purchase (“Remove ads”) turns off all advertising for good.

Audio Bingo

How do I win?

As soon as a full row, column or diagonal on the 4×4 grid is marked, you win – the app calls out “Bingo!”. Everything else is on the Audio Bingo page.

Where do the theme words come from?

From curated lists across six themes. These lists can be updated online, so new words can be added for topical occasions – without an app update.
